Meet Our Dentists
Get to know the dentists who care for patients at Dental Partners Tifton. Each brings years of training and a commitment to comfortable, personal care.
Dr. Jose Vargas
Dr. Jose Vargas was raised in Moultrie, GA, and graduated from Colquitt County High School in 2012 as a Merit scholar. In 2016, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. Go Stallions! He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois.
In his spare time, Dr. Vargas loves spending time with his family. He also loves to exercise by running, weightlifting, and practicing his lifelong passion of boxing. Cooking is also very relaxing and a second passion of his, partly due to his experience working as a cook for several years in a local restaurant. He sets a goal of trying to cook a new recipe every week.
After being so far from home and living in a big city during dental school, he knew it was time to come back home to his small town roots and to finally be able to provide care to all of the friendly faces and warm personalities of good ol’ South Georgia.
Dr. Amanda Merritt
Dr. Amanda Merritt is a south Georgia native, born and raised in the Valdosta area. She graduated 3rd in her class from Berrien High School and went on to attend Valdosta State University, where she graduated Cum Laude. In 2005, she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Merritt then completed a General Practice residency, where she received training in implant dentistry and sedation dentistry.
Dr. Merritt joined Dental Partners of Southwest Georgia in 2009. Prior to that time, she practiced in Fitzgerald and Valdosta. Dr. Merritt is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. She served as the President of the Southwestern District of the Georgia Dental Association from 2011 to 2012.
Giving back to her community through volunteer work is important to Dr. Merritt. She is involved with Give Kids A Smile and numerous other free dental clinics. Dr. Merritt is married to Jay Merritt of Fitzgerald. They have two children, Dalton and Annabelle.
Dr. Megan Wilgus
Dr. Megan Wilgus was born and raised in St. Petersburg, FL and graduated from the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High School. She continued her education at the University of Florida, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Public Health degree. Dr. Wilgus graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Florida College of Dentistry, making her a double gator!
Dr. Wilgus is passionate about dentistry and helping her patients achieve healthy and beautiful smiles. She is skillfully trained in providing comprehensive care and can offer a wide variety of services for her patients. Her current professional affiliations include the American Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.
Outside of the office, Dr. Wilgus enjoys hiking, yoga, fishing, and spending time with her dog, friends and family.
